The City of Elma and East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue are working hard to protect the community we call home!

To ensure public safety and code compliance, all citizens and local business owners need to ensure their addresses are clearly labeled. This requirement is mandated under Elma City Code Sections 15.52.010 and 15.52.020, as well as the International Fire Code (IFC) Section 505.1.

To meet both city ordinance and fire code regulations, address numbers must be:

  • Visible: Placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property.
  • Contrasting: Numbers must contrast sharply with their background to remain clearly readable in low-light conditions.
  • Size: Numbers must be a minimum of 4 inches high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inches.

Clear address numbering is not just a matter of municipal compliance; it is a vital link in the chain of survival and property preservation. By taking this small step, you are directly contributing to a safer community.  Thank you for your cooperation and for your commitment to our shared safety.
